Scope of Work
Cianbro served as Construction Manager for the Oxford Casino expansion and construction of the new three-story hotel on top of a new gaming floor. The Oxford Casino Expansion and New Hotel was a 93,907-square-foot addition to the existing gaming facility and features more than 100 guest rooms, including six high-end suites, and additional dining options, as well as an expansion of the gaming floor and meeting spaces.
Project Details
- Constructed a 93,907-square-foot addition to the existing gaming facility
- Constructed a new loading dock/warehouse, back of house area, bar, expanded gaming area and kitchen, multi-purpose space, hotel reception/lobby, new entries, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) spaces
- Constructed three 19,658-square-foot upper levels, consisting of more than 100 hotel rooms
Lean, Innovative and Unique Project Solutions
Cianbro used an innovative approach to improve the project schedule. The strategy used prefabricated and pre-assembled components that were built off-site and then trucked in to be snapped into the expanding structure. Another unconventional aspect of the job was that construction was taking place next door to an operating casino that never closed. Cianbro’s experience with casino construction, including the construction of this same casino five years prior, provided us with the intimate knowledge of its daily operations. Therefore, Cianbro was able to develop a site logistics plan, minimizing the impact on parking and the entrance into the building, that prevented Churchill Downs from losing revenue while maximizing our construction site.
