Cianbro recently received three awards from the NH/VT chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors for the completed Sarah Mildred Long Bridge project. Kaven Philbrook and Mike Franck accepted these awards on behalf of Cianbro at the annual Excellence in Construction Awards Ceremony held on October 24, 2019. This event recognizes top contractors in the region in several categories. For the three year bridge project, Cianbro received the prestigious Excellence Award in the Commercial Over $10M/Infrastructure category, the “Best of the Best” Chairman’s Award, and for Best Practices, the Community Service Certificate of Merit.
The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is a lift bridge spanning the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine, carrying U.S. Route 1 Bypass traffic. The Cianbro team’s technically innovative design blending form and function created an impressive and iconic landmark as well as improved traffic flow. The bridge allows for a higher vertical clearance for marine traffic resulting in 70% less drawbridge openings. Most importantly, this project was done with a commitment to safety, working over 600,000 safe hours with zero lost time injuries.
