Scope of Work

Cianbro increased the ground-to-conductor clearance on 27 transmission line sections in order to comply with regulations. Cianbro performed this by replacing the existing structures with entirely taller structures, installing mid-span structures, and utilizing PhaseRaiser technology by cutting into the existing structures, raising the top portion and utilizing galvanized steel jackets with thru-bolting to support the structures. The project scope also involved environmental controls and matting for access to the structures.

Project Details

  • Raised the clearance on twenty-seven 115 kV & 345 kV transmission line sections
  • Replaced/Installed 115 kV & 345 kV energized structures
  • Replaced/Installed 115 kV & 345 kV de-energized structures

Lean, Innovative, and Unique Project Solutions

Cianbro replaced, modified and installed 400 structures, mostly while the 115kV and 345 kV transmission lines remain energized. In areas of work that require matting, the mat installation team worked closely with the access road and environmental controls team to prepare the right-of-way for access. Over 25,000 crane mats were installed at over 200 access points. At one time, during a two-week span, Cianbro had 8 pulp trucks hauling a total of 2,500 mats from Saco, Maine to Orient, Maine (a 10 hour round trip). At multiple times during the project, we had multiple crews, both Cianbro and trade partners, working more than 100 miles apart.
