Cianbro Irby JV continues on the Maine Power Reliability Program to build a stronger, smarter grid for Maine as they work through the organic, agricultural fields of Bowdoinham, across Merrymeeting Bay, to the shores of Woolwich. For the next year, Cianbro Irby and its subcontractors will collaborate to install four steel lattice towers and 20 additional steel structures. To make way for the new infrastructure, crews are removing a portion of Section 81. The team mobilized equipment on the west shores of the bay at the first of the year, and finished removing two of the four lattice towers the first week of February. The team has moved to the east shore, in the town of Woolwich, where crews have dismantled the remaining towers. Prior to dismantling, these towers reached approximately 280 feet in height and weighed approximately 85,000 pounds. The work performed by the Cianbro Irby team will upgrade Central Maine Power’s bulk power transmission system by providing double circuit separation of two 345 kV lines, modernizing and upgrading the current system. Careful environmental measures are employed to ensure minimal impact to farmers and the fields as growing and harvesting season approaches.
