This fall, while Cianbro team members worked to put traffic across the new Bates Bridge connecting Haverhill and Groveland, Massachusetts, another team from Cianbro had an important job a few miles upriver. Cianbro had the responsibility of assisting the engineering firm HDR, Inc. in the inspection of the substructure of the Haverhill railroad bridge. Working from a barge in the Merrimac River, the team members exposed pile under the footings of the bridge piers. They took core samples of the footings and piers. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will use the findings to determine the scope of upcoming rehabilitation contracts at the site. The project was expected to take a month and a half to complete, but Cianbro's crew brought the job to completion a month ahead of schedule.
"This project shows what Cianbro can do on smaller-scale jobs," said Senior Project Manager Pat Sughrue. "We are efficient and competitive to serve our clients on what some would consider smaller projects. Wrapping up this project a month ahead of schedule just shows how Cianbro gets creative to save our clients time and money."
