With all but the finishing touches completed on the new Cross Insurance Center arena in Bangor, Cianbro Senior Project Manager Jon DiCentes joined Chairman and CEO Pete Vigue in thanking the scores of Cianbro team members and subcontractor team members whose hands-on work and expertise raised the dazzling new venue over the past 20 months. Cianbro's team and its roster of subcontractors have completed the job under budget and months ahead of schedule.
"This building is a perfect example of what happens when people work together toward a common goal…that you can achieve remarkable things," said Cianbro Chairman and CEO Pete Vigue at a luncheon for Cianbro team members and subcontractors on the floor of the new arena. "And so, today, not only am I here to thank you for what you have done, I want to thank you for working together. Just imagine what is possible…Think about what we can do to advance this state during one of the most challenging economic times that we've ever seen in any of our lives. Just think about it. It starts first with us believing in ourselves and knowing that we are not at the end of the road, we're in the middle of the road. We've got to think that and believe it. And we've got to help people from the outside to understand it."
Jon DiCentes joined the CEO in congratulating the team on a remarkable safety record compiled during the job. "Safety was huge on this project, so we wanted to celebrate that, as well," Jon said. "We're finishing this job with a recordable incident rate of less than one. And I just can't thank everyone enough for your help and your hard work. We're very demanding. But you know what? It's about people. And we've got 435,000 safe hours on this job. But it's not about the numbers. It's about the people and everyone going home safely."
Mike Dyer, the city's Executive Director of the Bangor Auditorium and Civic Center, and the General Manager of the new arena, added his thanks to the chorus of accolades directed toward the constructors at the luncheon. "The level of cooperation is and was fantastic," said Dyer while commenting on the interaction between the owners and the builders of the new facility. "What everybody in this room, and others, have accomplished is: Bangor is on the map. Bangor has got a world class facility that will be second to none. You guys should all give yourselves a hand because you are the ones who have made it happen. You are the ones who take those drawings that I look at and say, 'How does anybody look at this drawing and build this?' Well, you guys know how to do that, and that's no small feat."
