Amtrak and Cianbro/Middlesex have achieved another milestone at the Niantic River Bascule Bridge Replacement Project in Connecticut. Rail traffic has shifted off of the original 105 year old span over the Niantic River between Waterford and East Lyme, and is now utilizing one of two tracks over the gleaming new railway bridge constructed by Cianbro/Middlesex. The second track is scheduled to open to trains later this fall. The milestone sets into motion the Joint Venture's efforts down the home stretch toward completion of the project in the spring of 2013. Among the tasks still to be accomplished in the final months of the project are the completion of the bridge's new control house, and dismantling of the old bridge.
