Cianbro Vice President Charlie Cianchette, CEO Pete Vigue, and Cianbro Corporation President Andi Vigue joined hospital officials and Maine Second District Congressman Mike Michaud in a groundbreaking ceremony at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, Maine this week. Cianbro's Northern New England team is working with Brasfield & Gorrie on the hospital's Addition/Renovation & Central Utility Plant Project. This is a construction management joint venture project.
"This project fits into Cianbro's philosophy of giving back from where we take," said Cianbro Project Manager Hank Dunn. "We are also able to continue to grow our medical construction resume. To be able to do both with one project is a great thing."
The overall scope of work consists of two projects. The first is the Addition and Renovations project that will provide new inpatient rooms. The scope of work includes site development, excavation and backfill for a new one story inpatient wing, site utilities, final grading, site finishes, as well as renovation of 6,000 square feet within the existing inpatient hospital. The new addition consists of approximately 14,000 square feet, which includes approximately 12,000 square feet of basement area. The second project is construction of a new Central Utility Plant and Infrastructure located in the basement of the addition. The Central Utility Plant will be tied into existing utilities. The project is scheduled to be completed in October of 2012.
Adequate space at hospitals such as SVH decreases medical errors, improves infection control, improves privacy, and decreases noise from other patients sharing a room. With America's aging population, there is no doubt that many more projects to build better patient rooms will take place in the future.
"Cianbro is positioning itself to provide the Healthcare construction expertise that will be needed as the Baby Boom generation continues to need services," Hank said.
The project also serves to perpetuate the ongoing cooperation with construction giant, Brasfield & Gorrie, a national Healthcare construction leader. B&G has joined with Cianbro on several important projects of late, including the Galveston Causeway Railroad Bridge, work at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, and now the Sebasticook Valley Hospital upgrade.
