Barge Number Three, loaded with five E-Rooms destined for a new nickel mining plant in Newfoundland, has departed Cianbro's Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Maine. The voyage began on schedule at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, and will arrive in Newfoundland after a five-day journey, weather permitting. The barge is scheduled to return to Brewer before Memorial Day weekend to begin prepping for the next load of modules. That shipment will begin loading in mid-June. The fifth and final voyage, carrying the last modules, is set for later this summer and is expected to wrap up the project ahead of schedule. "Our client is very happy with the quality of the modules and with our ability to deliver on time and under budget," said Cianbro's Senior Project Manager Dave Leavitt.
The team in Brewer is preparing for a celebration that will take place onsite on May 24th to celebrate the outstanding performance turned in at EMF on the project. Those accomplishments include 866 days without a recordable injury.
"No matter how you measure success, whether by safety, quality, or productivity, our team has done a magnificent job," said Dave, "and our client has echoed that same praise. We emphasize our priorities in that order: safety first, quality second, followed by productivity. And in all categories we have earned the accolades of our client. I should also add that we've also used a lot of local vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors and so the successes here at the Brewer facility are due in part to them as well as to Cianbro's team members."
