Cianbro's Wind Energy Services Business Unit is racking up new victories in the Mid-Atlantic Region by erecting the first of 20 wind turbines that the company is installing for Nordex in Oakland, Maryland. The turbines each produce 2.5 MW of power for a total of 50 MW which will be directed into the Allegheny Power grid. The University of Maryland, local businesses and residences are among the customers who will benefit from the influx of wind power.
Millwrights, crane operators, riggers, generalists and electricians are all part of the 40 member Cianbro team that is on site. Half of the team members are from the Maryland area. Their work began in mid-September. Project Manager Brian Larsen says the team is getting into a rhythm, and will be erecting two to three turbines per week when crews reach full production.
"This is a great opportunity for Cianbro to further prove the company's commitment to the wind industry," said Larsen. "This is the biggest wind project undertaken so far by Cianbro's Wind Services arm."
The General Manager of Cianbro's Wind Energy Services, Parker Hadlock, is optimistic about the company's future in the wind industry. "Our clients are recognizing Cianbro's value as a full EPC contractor that self-performs all aspects of our projects," says Hadlock, "and can bring to bear significant resources to overcome the client's obstacles."
