Fox Islands Wind Towers Poised to Rise

The base components of the towers that will make up the Fox Islands Wind turbines are soon to be put into place. That's the word from Fox Islands Wind CEO George Baker, and Cianbro Project Manager Chad Allen. Turbine components have been accumulating at the Prock Marine yard in Rockland and on the project site on Vinalhaven, awaiting the arrival of the base pieces from Quebec. On Tuesday, September 1, the first base component is scheduled to make the journey across Penobscot Bay aboard a Prock barge, arriving at Carver's Harbor on Vinalhaven at around 8 a.m. The base component and a mid-tower component will be transported immediately to the jobsite to be hoisted into place by a Cianbro crane. Another base piece is set to arrive late in the week, and is scheduled to be erected before Labor Day. Baker, who is also Vice President of Community Wind at the Island Institute, said, “After two years, we are thrilled that the turbines are finally being erected. From here, it is only a matter of weeks until the project will be generating clean power for the Vinalhaven and North Haven communities.”
