Scope of Work
Cianbro replaced the grating bridge deck, center bearing, and motor drives on the 458 ft, two-lane swing span bridge.

Project Details
  • Jacked up the 900 ton swing span and replaced the spherical center bearing
  • Repaired balance wheels in the swing span
  • Installed new variable speed motor control consoles on the existing 60 HP motors for the bridge drive system 
  • Installed new limit switches and relay logic circuits to allow for automatic span operation
  • Demolished and removed the existing bridge deck and stringers while maintaining one-way traffic during night time lane closures—full two-way traffic was maintained during the day
  • Replaced 40 tons of structural steel stringers
  • Installed 11,000 sf of 5 ¼ inch new galvanized open grating bridge deck and stringers in panels weighing 10 tons each
  • Performed underwater repair of concrete piers
  • Installed 1,000 lf of Rob-Roy conduit
  • Installed a closed circuit, fiber-optic security camera system
  • Paved 600 ft overlay of bridge approach
  

Unique Challenge



The Cianbro team successfully completed several heavy rigging challenges that included jacking up the 900 ton swing span, installing a 5 ton casting for the center bearing, replacing the spherical center bearing and installing 12 ft by 22 ft,10 ton deck grating panels.
