Cianbro Launches State-of-the-Art Webcam for Bangor Arena Project

While construction crews modify the landscape day by day at the Bangor Arena project across from Hollywood Slots on Main Street, local citizens, stakeholders, vendors, designers and suppliers will be able to watch the progress in detail thanks to a high-tech webcam newly installed by Cianbro. The camera, produced by Earthcam, captures panoramic scenes of the jobsite at a resolution of 12 megapixels which allows zoom focusing that is capable of capturing images of objects as small as individual birds perched on the old auditorium's façade.

The camera's high resolution capabilities are only one feature of the Earthcam system. From the Earthcam's location atop Hollywood Slots, viewers will also be able to view time lapse photography of the project on demand, select individually archived photos of the jobsite by date and time, and pan and zoom at will. The Earthcam technology is the same webcam system that is in place to capture the progress at the construction site in downtown Manhattan of the new One World Trade Center Tower. Currently, the view of the Bangor Arena jobsite is available solely at www.cianbro.com. Later, the images will also be accessible through the Bangor City website.

"With a high-profile project like the Arena, it's important to have high-tech tools for informing the public and easing the collaboration between Cianbro and all the stakeholders," said Cianbro Creative Services Manager Mike Brooks. "With the new Earthcam system, the public will feel as if they are on site."

Not only is the camera useful for keeping the jobsite in the public eye, it is also a tool to help constructors to document the scene, and to provide visual aids while discussing steps in the construction process. The photos captured by the webcam can be marked up and labeled, published in PDF reports, and accessed via mobile devices.

“Earthcam’s technology and services will be key to documenting and promoting such a monumental project for the City of Bangor," said Cianbro Project Manager Jon DiCentes. "This has already become an important and integral part of the project’s technology and supports our philosophy of being transparent to all stakeholders involved.”

During the groundbreaking ceremony in August, Cianbro CEO Pete Vigue talked about some of the fun that the webcam would bring to the project. "We all know when a major project comes to a community in years gone by, that we have these sidewalk superintendents, right? And you'll notice that in that perimeter fence, there's absolutely no holes in the fence and you can't see through it," said Pete. "And that's for a reason, because we've moved into the technology era in the construction industry. And so for those of you who would like to sit at home and observe this project being built, you'll be able to tune into the city's website or Cianbro's website and monitor, day by day, hour by hour, the activities that take place here, thanks to Hollywood Slots in allowing us to put a webcam on the hotel and observe the project. You'll be able to monitor the project from the outside. And as the structure is completed, we will move the webcams inside, and you can monitor the activities inside, until the entire building is complete."
