Last Motiva Modules Depart Eastern Manufacturing Facility

As with all construction jobs, the time has come to put the finishing touches on the Motiva Refinery Expansion Project, one of the most important chapters in the 61 year history of Cianbro. Today, Cianbro Constructors will deliver the last of 51 refinery modules that the company's Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer was hired by Motiva to construct.

Cianbro was the first of the four international module yards employed by Motiva to deliver modules to the construction site in Port Arthur, Texas. The quality of the work performed by Cianbro's team members has bordered on perfection. Motiva, and agent Bechtel-Jacobs, communicated to Cianbro's senior management team that the company has exceeded their expectations during the two and a half years of this vital and complex project. A high percentage of the craftspersons are local people that Cianbro trained when the project began, providing a free craft education to hundreds of the area's citizens. By combining these newly skilled workers with veteran Cianbro team members, the company created a highly skilled and motivated workforce. Accordingly, over the course of the Motiva project, Cianbro has been able to bring nearly two million hours of highly paid work to this part of the state, and more than 100 million dollars to the economy.
Cianbro's EMF team members also excelled in safety, achieving one of the best safety records in the history of the company during the Motiva project despite the vast amount of heavy construction work that was undertaken. Meanwhile, the advanced technology that Cianbro has developed to increase safety and maximize efficiency at the Brewer facility has won international awards and recognition. By using laser scanners to measure the precise placement of equipment, piping and steel within the modules, Cianbro has been able to keep survey engineers on the ground to make measurements. This technology has not only helped to create a safer approach to the work, it has also been highly efficient, resulting in significant cost savings to the client. Those High Definition Laser Scanning techniques have won two prestigious global awards for Cianbro, and more awards might be coming soon. Also, Cianbro won world-wide recognition for the development of 3D Visualization techniques at the Eastern Manufacturing Facility, using sophisticated software which allowed the company's engineers and craftspersons to "see" a module virtually long before the structure ever took shape in the Brewer yard. In order to claim that recognition, Cianbro had to win out over an impressive list of world-class companies from around the globe which also sought the prize. As with Laser Scanning, 3D Visualization produced significant cost savings for the project by aiding in the planning and assembly of the highly congested modules. These technologies, combined with value engineering and planning, have been instrumental in delivering all nine barge shipments on time, every time.

With so many accomplishments in the Brewer resume, Cianbro is confident that the next big job for the Eastern Manufacturing Facility will not be long in arriving.  Cianbro's marketing teams are working to bring new clients to Maine. In the meantime, the company will be preparing the Eastern Manufacturing Facility for the next important contract.

"The creation of so much opportunity has been a team effort, a partnership between area residents, local and state leaders, federal agencies and delegates, and Cianbro," says Cianbro CEO Pete Vigue. "Our sincere thanks go out to all involved, and congratulations for all that you've helped to build at EMF."
