New England Board of Higher Education Honors Cianbro’s Educational Efforts

Mar 18 2016

Cianbro’s efforts on behalf of creating educational opportunities in New England have received the prestigious recognition of the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE).  The company was honored with an annual “Business Contribution to Higher Education” award in front of an audience of 400 educators, lawmakers, business people and philanthropists at the NEBHE’s annual Awards Program in Boston on March 4th.

Board Member and University of Maine Extension Professional Wanda Lincoln nominated Cianbro for the award in the aftermath of a 2015 agreement between Cianbro and Husson University.  The agreement grants bona fide college credits for Cianbro trainees who complete any of a wide variety of high-quality training and education programs offered by the company.  Husson’s collaboration with Cianbro is the latest in a series of agreements with educational institutions in Maine which include Kennebec Valley Community College, the University of Maine at Augusta and Saint Joseph’s College.

The head of Cianbro’s training and educational efforts, Cianbro Institute Manager Brian Watson, said the NEBHE recognition has to do with the innovations that the company has used to provide multiple entry points for lifelong learning within the firm.

“Whether you’ve got a GED or an MBA, there are places where you can enter into our company and continue to learn,” said Brian during his acceptance speech at the Awards Ceremony.  “I think the recognition continues to reinforce that we’re doing the right thing by providing good educational opportunities for all of our team members at every level.  We’ve been recognized for our leadership programs.  We’ve been recognized for our apprenticeship programs, and now for our contributions to higher education.  The whole concept of lifelong learning is valid and important, and Cianbro is on the right track.”

The New England Board of Higher Education was founded in 1955 by six visionary New England governors.  The organization brings together leaders of education, higher education, government, business and the nonprofit sector to forge partnerships and advance ideas that enhance the economy and quality of life in the six-state region and the world.  NEBHE works to increase education opportunities for New England residents and to promote collaboration among the region’s colleges and universities to expand access, success, affordability and the economic impact of higher education.

NEBHE launched the New England Higher Education Excellence Awards in 2003 to recognize individuals and institutions that have made substantive contributions to improving higher education opportunities for New England students.  Nominated individuals and organizations exemplify NEBHE’s mission through their accomplishments.
