In the weeks following the Baltimore Fab Shop's attainment of the prestigious SHARP Award from federal and Maryland Labor Department officials, the business unit has reached another significant safety milestone. This week, the Baltimore Shop has surpassed three years without a recordable injury.

It took nearly two years of effort, but the team members at the Baltimore headquarters of Cianbro Fabrication and Coating Corporation (CFCC) have won an award that only five other companies in Maryland have earned.

 The City of Bangor today held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the construction of the new Bangor Arena at Bass Park, to replace the aging Bangor Auditorium. Bangor City Councilors were joined by representatives of Cianbro, the General Contractor on the project, and Sink Combs Dethlefs, the project architect.

The company's Wind Energy Services team is announcing that Cianbro has been awarded the Spruce Mountain Wind Project in Woodstock, Maine by developer Patriot Renewables LLC. The 20 Megawatt project scope includes foundations, turbine erection, electrical collection, and electrical transmission. The earthworks efforts, by others, are presently underway, with the entire project scheduled for completion before the end of 2011.

In a Thursday budget workshop session at City Hall in Bangor, Maine, municipal leaders officially selected Cianbro Corporation to build a new arena and convention center to replace the aging Bangor Auditorium. Cianbro Project Manager Jon DiCentes expects mobilization to begin during the week of June 20th, including moving office trailers on site, installing temporary fencing, and setting up project signage.

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is the premiere trade organization for the nation's steel fabrication industry. Part of the Institute's mission is to collect safety data from all of its members to get a sense of the industry's status in terms of safety. With data in hand, AISC is able to rank the safety achievements of members. In that arena, Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation (CFCC) stood out with a zero recordable incident rate for 2010, in comparison to an overall industry RIR of 9.9.

Cianbro's Mid-Atlantic Team and their subcontractors are within a few weeks of finishing the important Humpback Bridge Replacement Project in the nation's capital. Intricate stonework, a tight work area, and heavy commuter traffic have all been challenges that have been overcome to produce a well-designed bridge that is also aesthetically and historically pleasing. MAR's General Manager Chris Scott describes the last stages of the project.

On Thursday, May 19, at the Associated Builders and Contractors of Maine Awards Dinner held in Gray, Maine, Cianbro was awarded a National STEP Platinum Award for the company's outstanding safety performance in 2010. Cianbro Vice President Alan Burton, External Affairs Director Tim Walton, and Vice President of HR, Health, Safety and Environmental Mike Bennett were on hand to receive the prestigious recognition.
