On Thursday, May 19, at the Associated Builders and Contractors of Maine Awards Dinner held in Gray, Maine, Cianbro was awarded a National STEP Platinum Award for the company's outstanding safety performance in 2010. Cianbro and the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) have successfully completed Phase One of a three phase project to restore the famous 89 year old Mystic River Bascule Bridge between Groton and Stonington, Connecticut. The team wrapped up an intensive effort to complete the sandblasting and repainting of the bridge in time for the span's April 16th return to service for the busy summer tourist season in Mystic.

Not only was Cianbro well represented by team members who displayed professionalism and integrity, they also returned home with gold and silver. Zack Perrin of the SNE region and Joe Ducharme of NNE competed in the millwright contest. Joe returned with gold and Zack with silver. Josh Madden competed in the pipefitting contest and returned with the gold medal. Pierre Leclerc competed in the Industrial Electrical contest against 15 other electricians.

The famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York City is in the middle of important renovations, and Cianbro Fabrication and Coating Corporation has been a key supplier of repair steel at the project for about a year. As the renovations have progressed, project engineers have realized that fascia girders and diaphragms also need to be replaced. The contractor on the Brooklyn Bridge Rehabilitation Project, Skanska, has contacted CFCC with a request for 280 tons of fascia girder and 30 tons of diaphragms.

On April 15th, the National Guard invited Cianbro to an awards ceremony held at the University of Maine in appreciation of the efforts by team members to make the deployment easier for the troops. Those soldiers included SSG Dan Thibeault, who is a Cianbro Safety Specialist. Cianbro Vice President Tom Stone accepted a commemorative plaque from the National Guard on behalf of the company. "We received thanks," said Tom, "but this wasn't about Cianbro. It was about the troops doing their duty. Our soldiers knew they were on the minds of folks back home, and they appreciated it."
