For nearly 90 years, the Mystic River Bridge in Connecticut has been one of the most photographed landmarks in one of the nation's most popular tourist destinations. Between now and July of 2013, Cianbro will be leading a project to restore the aging bridge to its youthful glory. The job presents many challenges, including the need to work around a busy tourist season in Mystic, and a flotilla of boats which rely on the functionality of the unique drawbridge. Project Manager Scott Tierney and Superintendent Matt Hebert describe the project.

Nestle Waters North America, the owner of the Poland Spring brand, has named the Cianbro-built bottling plant in Kingfield, Maine as their "Best Factory in North America." The award comes after more than two years of successful operations since the plant's opening, resulting in nearly a doubling of the facility's workforce and a steady increase in production.

Progress on the construction of the state-of-the-art Offshore Wind Laboratory at the University of Maine is moving quickly and smoothly toward a June completion date. The facility will be an important focal point for upcoming research to build modern deep-sea wind turbines designed to harvest electricity from the robust winds in the Gulf of Maine. The facility will be able to house and test the efficiency and durability of massive wind blades, while determining the impacts of offshore marine conditions on floating turbine designs. But the Lab's usefulness doesn't end with wind.

About 40 Cianbro team members are currently enrolled in a training program tailored for Transmission and Distribution operators and builders, in preparation for an influx of work associated with the Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP). Approximately 20 operators are being trained on five different types of T&D equipment: excavators used in rough terrain, flex track diggers, flex track buckets, flex track dumps, and Hydremas.

Despite a ferocious winter in Massachusetts, Cianbro team members are moving forward successfully in the effort to construct a new 775 foot single leaf bascule bridge to replace the century-old Bates Bridge which connects Haverhill and Groveland. Obstacles include more than six feet of snowfall, a persistent layer of ice that forms on the Merrimac River, and the necessity to work around the biological cycles of an endangered fish species. Project Manager Kevin Stepanick and Project Engineer Marc Caldwell discuss the team's accomplishments.

Cianbro's largest wind project to date began in the fall of 2010, in the colorful foliage of western Maryland's mountains. Before the project would be completed, Cianbro crews would experience first-hand why the highlands near Oakland, Maryland were chosen by the client for a wind farm.
