"I think it might be the largest boiler outage the company has ever been involved with." That's how Cianbro Project Manager Mike Hilton describes the all-out effort that Cianbro crews have been putting forward at the SAPPI shutdown in Hinckley, Maine. More than 600 team members are on a grueling three week schedule to upgrade the mill's recovery boiler, while tending to other assorted upgrades and maintenance, as well. As always, safety, quality and schedule are all key objectives.

Cianbro's Wind Energy Services Business Unit is racking up new victories in the Mid-Atlantic Region by erecting the first of 20 wind turbines that the company is installing for Nordex in Oakland, Maryland. The turbines each produce 2.5 MW of power for a total of 50 MW which will be directed into the Allegheny Power grid.

In the spring of 2010, Cianbro/Middlesex team members began a three year project to replace a century-old moveable railway bridge between Niantic and Waterford, Connecticut. The work for Amtrak is complicated by the fact that the job site is a tight squeeze between Long Island Sound to the south, and a busy rail corridor to the north including commuter and freight traffic, as well as high voltage catenary lines.

Day number 1,149 was a time of celebration for Cianbro team members at the Tambrands facility in Auburn, Maine. The number represents the total consecutive days worked by the Cianbro team and their subcontractors without a recordable injury. That adds up to more than three years of safe operations.

The final girder of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge Project was lifted into place on Wednesday, October 6, an event that represents a "great internal milestone for the team," in the words of Project Engineer Marshall Goodchild. The girder is the last of 151 total girders to be set by Cianbro/Middlesex crews. "We'll spend the next few weeks impacting, demob'ing cranes and welding out bearings," said Goodchild.

For three years, September 15, 2010 had been an important target for the Cianbro/Middlesex team working on the Brightman Street Bridge Replacement Project in Massachusetts. That is the day which had been set aside for the first test of the east bascule spans, a test that was executed without a hitch. In this video, follow the project team on the morning of September 15, as the test gets underway.

Cianbro has been awarded a new project to construct 22 Electrical Rooms, contracted by Vale, an international mining company headquartered in Brazil. The electrical rooms will be installed in a nickel processing plant that Vale is constructing in Long Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada.

Cianbro/Middlesex team members are approximately a week away from opening the spans of the new Brightman Street Bridge for the first time. Millwrights are finalizing the balancing of the east span this week, while electricians terminate control wire in the control house. The team is also erecting bridge grating on the SW span in preparation for deck placement on October 1, and crews will pave the westbound ramps this week as well. The first opening of the spans will be "an all day event," according to Project Manager Kaven Philbrook.
