There was no shortage of VIPs on Cianbro's jobsites during Wednesday, May 26th. In Massachusetts, on the Brightman Street Bridge Project linking Fall River and Somerset, Governor Deval Patrick paid a visit during a tour focusing on jobs in South Eastern Massachusetts. Cianbro Project Manager Kaven Philbrook assisted Massachusetts DOT District 5 Engineer Kevin Cassidy in showing the Governor the massive jobsite at Brightman. Cianbro Regional Vice President Linc Denison was also on hand for the visit.

Cianbro Chairman and CEO Peter Vigue is pleased to announce a stellar new addition to the Cianbro Board of Directors. Former combat pilot and space shuttle commander Frederick (Rick) Hauck was appointed by a vote of the Board earlier this week. "Rick is a gentleman with tremendous experience, beginning with the Navy and then as an astronaut, and has significant relationships both nationally and globally," says Vigue. "He also has extensive business experience."

When the public thinks of Cianbro, massive heavy construction jobs come to mind. But the company also prides itself on diversity, and that's where Cianbro Marine fits in. Smaller, specialized projects in the maritime industry are what Cianbro Marine is all about. And a prime example is the high profile work that team members completed on a New Hampshire icon, the 122 year old tourist vessel the Mount Washington, on Lake Winnipesaukee, from January to April of this year. Cianbro Marine helped to install new engines in the old ship in time for the busy summer season.

"This isn't about an arena. This is about the region." That's how Cianbro Chairman and CEO Peter Vigue views the development of a replacement for the aging Bangor Auditorium in Bangor, Maine, a project for which Cianbro has been chosen as the construction manager at-risk by the Finance Committee of the City Council. The full Council is expected to give final approval to Cianbro's nomination next week.

"The job will put about 50 team members to work for roughly two years," says MAR Estimating Manager Jerry Humphrey. Once the renovations are completed, the entire length of the historic C&O Canal will be accessible to the nation's citizens.

The annual snapshot of the attitudes and beliefs of business decision-makers across Maine, the Minding Maine's Business survey conducted by Critical Insights, has some good news for Cianbro this year. For the first time, Cianbro has inched ahead of L.L. Bean as the Most Admired Maine Company, according to the 2010 survey's 400 respondents. The group of respondents is made up of chief decision-makers within private sector businesses in Maine, including owners, presidents, CEOs, directors and managers. The responses were collected in March by Critical Insights, the largest independent market research firm in Northern New England and a respected analyst of public trends in Maine for nearly 20 years.
