Among the innovations developed by Cianbro for the Motiva Refinery Expansion Project is a set of techniques for using laser scanning equipment to measure the tight tolerances required in the construction of refinery modules. Chief Field Engineer Seth Goucher and his team have developed and perfected techniques for High Definition Laser Scanners developed by Leica Geosystems, to measure key aspects of construction -- for example, the placement of pipe within the modules to an accuracy of 1/8th of an inch of design specifications. HDS engineers from around the world gathered in San Ramon, California to put a spotlight on their respective innovations. Goucher, along with Team Members Zach Davis and Brayden Sheive, took first place in the Deliverable Contest - Plant Category.
