Cianbro rehabilitated and upgraded a 125 ft high gravity dam with a 288 ft wide spillway, containing 20 billion gallons of water from the Loch Raven Reservoir.
Project Details Cianbro:
- Replaced the top 4 ft of the concrete spillway crest section
- Drove 57, 12 inch diameter rock anchors through the dam into bedrock
- Placed 50,000 cy of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) conveyed 1/4 mile from the onsite plant
- Placed 25,000 cy of conventional concrete in the Spillway Facing, Training Walls, Flip Bucket, and Dragon Teeth
- Replaced 140 ft of 120 inch diameter pre-stress concrete cylinder pipe
- Installed a new 60 inch valve for reservoir flow control
- Fabricated and installed a water-tight steel door closure system to seal access roadway in major storm events
- Removed / rehabilitated Intake Screens, Sluice Gates, and replaced two Motorized Trash Racks
- Cleaned and inspected one mile of 120 inch diameter PCCP, upper and lower galleries, replaced observation deck portions, and erected new steel supports
- Installed 2,500 amp construction temporary service as well as upgraded lighting and electrical systems
