Cianbro constructed a one mile highway with three bridges to connect Exit 5 on I-295 with Commercial Street on Portland’s waterfront.
Project Details
- Demolished and removed two of the existing land bridges
- Reconstructed the Veteran’s Circle intersection to include removal of all roadways, new fills, MSE retaining wall, new roadways, signals, and signage
- Drove 350 lf of pipe piling and 7,420 lf of H-pile
- Placed 3,240 cy of concrete for the substructure, superstructure, and barriers
- Constructed one, four span, 370 ft long bridge, including pile supports, three piers, pot bearings, steel girders, as well as concrete decks and barriers
- Constructed two, single span (105 ft and 125 ft) integral abutment bridges
- Performed staged fills for the three bridges including, geotechnical monitoring of settlements during and after the completion of the fills
- Installed 342 tons of rebar for substructures and superstructures
- Erected 756 tons of structural steel for the three bridges
- Relocated gas, water, sewer, and electrical utilities
- Maintained harmonious relationships with local neighbors, neighborhood groups, the City of Portland officials, and other interested parties
